RR loginV3: the smallest login yet!

What it is:
Basically, this is yet another re-write of the login program. The major difference here is that this version is exceptionally small, and everything is home-brewed, including the setup program. The smallness is the result of writing my own C++ runtime lib (MiniCRT), and dumping things I didn't need. The other half of the crunch is using my AggressiveOptimize.h header file, which forces Visual C++ 6.0 to link the program like VC5.

The result is a login program that takes 55k of disk space, and about 120k of runtime. This whopping huge 55k of exe also includes the config and setup/unsetup code; the Control Panel and Setup files are nothing more than simple command-line packagers to pass to the main program.

The zip file is a little less than 30k in size. Think you have enough space for that?

Updated 10-21-99:
Build #269 expands the size of the username and password for those systems that have longer usernames, and also adds back in the tooltips from V2. Fixed in this version are several issues regarding Windows 95 and 98 and stopping the service, and launching the control panel while the program is running. Uninstalling is also fixed up. The program will automatically upgrade the settings. Thanks to Eric Haudenschild for his testing! Sadly, all of this fixing up caused the program to grow by about 3k in size (most of it text). I know, you're heartbroken...
Build #263 corrects a strange interaction with the programming running as a service under NT and some other applications (like Eudora or Office) that would lock the others on startup if the service was already running. Didn't happen if the program was run as an app or started manually after the other program was started. See our Source Code page for a glimmer why.
Build #262 fixes a problem with Windows 95 and NT4 - the program used a function that should have (according to Microsoft) worked if IE4 or later was installed. However, it didn't. Thanks to those people who pointed it out.
